How do I get started?
Reach out through the contact page or by email at jp7790@nyu.edu. We can schedule a free 20-minute consultation to talk about what's bringing you to therapy and see whether we're a good fit. If we decide to work together, I'll send intake paperwork and we'll find a time for your first session. What happens in the first session?
We'll get to know each other. I'll ask about what's bringing you in and what you hope for, and you're welcome to ask me anything. There's no right way to show up and no pressure to say more than you're ready to.How do I know if we're a good fit?
Fit matters a great deal in therapy and I offer a free consultation to explore this through a conversation. Feeling nervous at the outset is common, but also notice whether you feel at ease with me. That’s a good indication we have the potential to develop a meaningful and supportive relationship. Are you accepting new clients?
Yes, I currently have openings. -
Do you offer telehealth or in-person sessions?
I offer sessions by secure/HIPAA compliant video and in person in Winthrop, Washington. Because I'm licensed in Washington, you will need to be physically located in Washington during sessions, even for tele-health.How long are sessions, and how often do we meet?
Sessions are 53 minutes. I prefer to meet weekly or every other week, since steady, regular contact helps the work build on itself. If that doesn't work for your schedule or budget, let's talk about what would. What is your cancellation policy?
Please give at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel. If you cancel with less notice, you're responsible for half of your session fee, because the time is held exclusively for you. You're welcome to reschedule to another time within the same week as your original session at no additional charge. If you arrive late, the session will still end at the scheduled time, so you may have less than the full 53 minutes. How long will therapy take?
It varies. Some people come for a particular stretch of life, and others stay for deeper, longer work. We'll check in regularly about what you want and how it's going. The pace is yours to set. -
What are your fees?
My standard fee is $150 for a 53-minute individual session. What is your Sliding-Scale?
I hold a limited number of spaces for sliding-scale clients, which is an avenue for people who can't sustainably afford my standard fee. Please reach out, and we can work together to find a fee that works for you. No documentation of income is needed, and if your circumstances change, we can revisit your fee.How do I pay, and can I use HSA or FSA funds?
I accept payment by cash in hand or credit/debit card, HSA , and FSA funds at the beginning of session through a secure and HIPAA compliant payment platform called IVY. Many HSA and FSA plans can be used for therapy, but plans vary, so check with your plan administrator. They may ask for a receipt or superbill, which I can provide. Why don't you bill insurance?
As an associate-level clinician, I'm not able to bill many insurance plans directly, and some plans don't reimburse associates at all. I'm out-of-network, which means you pay at the time of session, and I can provide a superbill if you'd like to seek reimbursement. See below to learn about superbills. Can I get reimbursed by my insurance using a superbill?
Possibly. A superbill is a detailed receipt you can submit to your insurance company to request out-of-network reimbursement. I provide one on request. It includes my name, license, and NPI number, your dates of service, the type and length of each session, a diagnosis code, and the fee you paid. A diagnosis is required for reimbursement and becomes part of your insurance record, so I'm happy to talk through what that means for you and we can work together to ensure we arrive at a diagnosis that feels honest but respectful.Reimbursement depends on your plan, and I can't guarantee coverage. Before we begin, I recommend asking your insurer:
Does my plan include out-of-network outpatient mental health benefits, and is there a deductible?
What percentage of the fee is reimbursed?
Do you reimburse a licensed mental health counselor associate working under supervision?
How do I submit a claim, and is there a deadline?
-
Is what I say confidential?
Yes. What you share in sessions is private. There are a few exceptions required by law: if you or someone else is at serious risk of harm, if I learn of abuse or neglect of a child or vulnerable adult, or if a court orders disclosure. If a situation like this arises, I'll talk with you first whenever possible.Does your supervisor see my information?
As an associate, I receive regular clinical supervision from Kimberly Dudley, PhD Candidate-CES, LMHC, LPC, NCC (WA License: LH61190) and I may discuss my work with clients during that time. I share only what's needed, and my supervisor is bound by the same confidentiality standards I am. You're welcome to ask me anything about how supervision works. What does it mean that you're an associate?
I'm a licensed mental health counselor associate in Washington (LMHCA) as well as in Utah (ACMHC), where I work part-time for a community mental health agency. I hold a master's degree in Mental Health Counseling and Wellness, and I'm completing supervised clinical hours toward full licensure as an LMHC in Washington and a CMHC in Utah. All of my work is overseen by multiple approved supervisors. What if I'm in crisis between sessions?
I'm not an emergency service, and I can't monitor messages in real time. If you're in crisis, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), or call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room. How is my information protected?
Sessions take place on a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform, and your records are stored in an encrypted client portal called Sessions Health. I ask that you not share detailed health information by email or through the contact form. -
You have the right to receive a "Good Faith Estimate" explaining how much your care will cost.
Under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act, health care providers need to give patients who don't have insurance, or who are not using their insurance, an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes fees for mental health services when you are paying out of pocket or seeing an out-of-network provider.
If you schedule at least 3 business days in advance, I'll provide your Good Faith Estimate in writing within 1 business day of scheduling. If you schedule at least 10 business days in advance, I'll provide it within 3 business days. You can also ask me, or any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
To request an estimate, contact me at [email/phone]. For questions or more information about your rights, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3059.
