Meet Jessica

The fact that you are looking for help right now matters. It means some part of you knows you deserve support, even if other parts feel uncertain, exhausted, or even ashamed. I honor all of you. Thanks for being here.

I’m Jessica Peterson, a licensed mental health counselor associate (LMHCA) with a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling and Wellness from New York University alongside degrees in Anthropology and Western Philosophy. My academic background has given me rigorous training and fostered a deep curiosity about how humans create meaning, navigate suffering, and find their way toward wholeness.

What I believe is fundamental to wellbeing are healthy relationships; with yourself, with others, and with the world around you. The therapeutic relationship is a place that can tend to the web of relationships we are woven into.

My perspective has also been shaped by spending much of my life in rural and wild places. The rivers, plants, and seasons remind me that growth is rarely linear, that some things unfold only when the conditions are right, and that there are forms of knowing that run deeper than words. These lessons from nature are the taproot of the presence and awe I bring to all that I do.

What It’s Like Working Together

You may feel tired, stuck, broken, or just done with feeling the way you feel. Those are all valid places to begin.

We’ll go at your pace as we begin to listen in. Together, we’ll reflect on what you are holding in, what your mind keeps circling back to, or the habits you fall back on. With this awareness, we can honor how these systems helped you navigate the world, understand why they may not serve you well now, and make room for what will come next.

I don't believe change comes from forcing ourselves to become someone new. It comes from getting curious about who we already are. I won't ask you to perform wellness for me. I'll ask you to show up as you are, and I'll meet you there with warmth and steadiness.

I'm here to know all of you, not only the parts that hurt, and to help you remember yourself with the kindness I bring to our work. Whatever has brought you here, we will face it together, side by side.

Located in Winthrop, Washington, I work in person and via tele-health with
adolescents, young adults & adults.

My Clinical Foundations

My work is grounded in psychodynamic, person-centered and strengths-based theory, with particular interests in:

  • Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB)

  • Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP)

  • Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT)

  • Relational-Cultural Theory (RCT)

  • Evolutionary Psychology

During my graduate studies, I concentrated in trauma-informed care and affirming care practices for supporting LGBTQIA+ communities.

These ways of thinking guide how I understand human growth, relationships, emotion, coping, and change. I draw from these perspectives thoughtfully and collaboratively to meet you with presence and acceptance for what is most alive for you right now.

Willingness is all you need to begin.

You don’t need anything figured out, or even to know why you’re here. It’s enough to sense that something needs attention and that you’re ready for support in addressing it.
